Friday night’s sunset on our trip down I-5 to Portland.
- Shake
2010 Tour EP
[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]
I am trying to shake these blues away / Only good thoughts can stay / Only good thoughts can stay.
Found off of Alberta in Portland.
Pretty little thing.
Someday I will know my way around one of these things.
…And then I saw Typhoon at the Doug Fir and my life changed.
No, but really, though.

Videography is something I’m dying to learn more about.

white liars - typhoon.
i know what i said
i wouldn’t hurt anyone
not with my hands
i wouldn’t hurt anyonei know what i said
i want to make peace and be one
but i’ve got this taste in my mouth
from yesterday’s bleeding tonguethere’s a violence in everyone
o you civilized barbariananything i love
and something comes in between
that i can’t get out of my head
i let it get to meyou’re quoting yourself to me
in some un-recounted dream
and each time i think you’re saying
that “one way or the other,
we all fight something”i know what i said
i wouldn’t hurt anyone
i’d never hurt you
i’d never hurt anyonebut there’s a liar in everyone
or am i the only onethere’s a violence in everyone
o i am civilized as anyone
Something about his lyrics grip my heart in some place that nothing has ever touched, but I know has some crazy holding power. I can’t even explain it. They’re all just so heart-wrenchingly honest.
April 8th. Album release. Doug Fir.
So excited. I really can’t get over it. I might actually cry. Someone should probably bring tissues.
Found this little guy in mint condition for $14.50 at the Montecello Antique Mall in Portland.
Now to try and find some 620 film…or try my hand at respooling. Eep.
Got to hang out with some little band called Campfire OK for a while when I was in Portland this past weekend. So fun!
As hard as my personal life may be right now, everything photography wise couldn’t be getting better. I’m getting some pretty crazy opportunities right now and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I am so very thankful to have every single one of you in my life.
CPR/Claws Pt. 2 - Typhoon.
I’d heard the name Typhoon thrown around a few times amongst KEXP and the like, but until yesterday, I’d never actually listened. Boy, oh, boy, did I listen.
At a friend’s suggestion, I visited Tender Loving Empire (a record label/store/gallery/art collective owned by Jared Mees and his wife) yesterday afternoon. The first thing that caught my attention, oddly enough, was not the gorgeously handcrafted items staring at me from all directions, but the amazing music playing overhead. Suddenly, all other sound ceased to exist and, after stumbling around dumbly for a minute trying to take in the beauty entering my ears, I nearly ran over to the employee and asked what we were listening to. I was scouring the CD section before she could finish the word “Typhoon”. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase and I urge you to buy the album and experience its beauty as well.
A little more about Typhoon (taken from the KEXP blog, where you can download another song of theirs):
The debut album from the Portland collective Typhoon has been a long time coming. The band, which ranges anywhere from seven to twenty members playing everything from drums to real or toy piano, stand up bass, or even a plastic bag for effect, have all known each other since high school and live with or within walking distance from each other. Typhoon has built a dedicated following often attracting up to 400 people at house parties or proper venues alike. The spectacle of seeing so many musicians moving towards a common goal (outside of a symphony anyway), can be awe inspiring. And even listening to today’s song “White Liars” will make you realize that you’ve stopped what you’re doing long before the drums and horns come in.
Best. Waffle. Ever.
Waffle Window in the Hawthorne district of Portland. YUM.
I took lots of photos in Portland this weekend.
Here’s one just for you!
For real, Google?

Found in Alberta, Portland.
Heading back to Portland on Thursday for a lovely weekend with Tabatha.
Life’s been throwing some hard punches lately. Really hard punches. A weekend away will do me some good, also, Campfire OK just so happens to be playing a little show at the Old Church on Friday night while I’m there! If you’re in Portland, wrangle up some friends and come hang with us.
Portland.
